What is Panaji well known for?
Panaji or Panjim as it was earlier called, is the capital of the small but vibrant state of Goa. Panaji is a tiny city that packs in a large punch. The church on the main square, the Baroque architecture, pretty villas, cobbled streets and interesting buildings give Panaji a distinctly Portuguese ambience.
The pretty town of Panaji lies along the left bank of the Mandovi River - piled up against terraced hills, a jumble of concrete buildings with whimsical balconies and red-tiled roofs, bleached clean churches and a riverside promenade that is just right for an evening stroll. The Old Portuguese quarter of Fontainhas, a charming section of Panaji with its narrow cobbled streets, quaint taverns, tiny pubs and bars, are a nostalgic kickback to the days of yore

Panaji Residency is one good hotel I can recommend. It is situated in the center of the city & is close to some of the main tourists attractions in the city.

Some major tourist attractions in Panjim (Panaji) are the lady of Immaculate Conception Church, the Church Square, the Goa state museum, the state of Abba Faria, the Jama Masjid, the Hindu Mahalaxmi Temple, Biocholim - Mayem Lake, the central library, the Menezes Braganza Institute, the Chapel of St. Sebastian and the Miramar beach.
Some major activities to do and enjoy in Panjim are Water sports like water rafting, water skiing, yachting and wind surfing. Other activities include Golf, Football, Bullfighting, Trekking and many more. Best time to visit Panjim is September to March
Panjim has developed into a good city. Though, it is having its old charm, there are lots of new malls and buildings coming up.
I have been to Goa three times and i love the place.
Panjim is the heart of GOA. It is really a great place to visit. A lot of people visit on vacations because of its wonderful beaches and delicious cuisines. It the most visited place in India.
