Pharma giant Glenmark's US Generics arm has bagged final abbreviated new drug approval (ANDA) from USFDA for Imiquimod cream, utilized to take care of certain skin illnesses like solar keratoses and skin cancers.
Glenmark's Imiquimod cream is a copy of Medicis Pharmaceutical Corp's Aldara.
The generic drug manufacturer stated it has begun shipping the cream instantly upon USFDA authorization.
For the twelve months period ended December 2011, Imiquimod cream recorded total sales of around $244 million.
Glenmark currently has 77 products certified for distribution in the United States market and 40 ANDAs are pending approval from the Food and Drug Administration.
On March 01, Glenmark has got authorization from US health watchdog to market a generic oral contraceptive and a gel for treating skin swelling in the American market.
"Glenmark will market the approved oral contraceptive as Marlissa tablets and plans to commence shipping both products immediately," the company said.
