Bulk LPG tanker operators ended their indefinite stir after a period of seven days on March 08.
The verdict to end the strike was declared by heads of the Southern Region bulk LPG Transport Owners Association (SRBLTOA) in Chennai on March 07 midnight after the second round of discussions.
Mr. M Ponnambalam, President of the association stated, “We have called off the indefinite strike that began on March 1. But we did not agree to the offer of `2.50/ km/ton as transportation charges and stuck to our demand of `2.80/km/ton.”
But, a deal was reached on the subject of inducting novel vehicles.
Mr. Ponnambalam stated that the oil marketing firms had decided to introduce 560 novel tankers for transporting cooking gas.
In addition, Mr. Ponnambalam stated that the State administration functionaries present during the discussions took a firm stand that the operators cancel the strike and hold fresh talks to reach at a satisfactory rate.
In the meantime, industry sources said that the operators were forced to pull out the stir under pressure.
“Though they were resolute in going ahead with the stir until their demand was met by the oil companies, some sort of veiled threat from some quarters made them bow down,” the sources added.
The initial round of discussions, which took place in Chennai on last Saturday failed to reach any settlement and was accompanied by the second round on Wednesday.
