Happy Birthday Jay Sean
Kamaljit Singh Jhooti was born on 26 March 1981.
Better known by his stage name Jay Sean, he is a British singer-songwriter, rapper, beatboxer and record creator.
His parents Sharan and Bindi Jhooti raised him in Southall, West London.
At the age of 11, he and his cousin Pritpal Rupra made a hip hop duo named "Compulsive Disorder".
He made his debut in the UK's Asian Underground scene as an affiliate of the Rishi Rich Project with "Dance with You" that progressed to #12 on the UK Singles Chart in the year 2003.
This led to him being signed to Virgin Records and having two UK top 10 hits as a solo artist in 2004: "Eyes On You" at #6 and "Stolen" at #4.
Next to the Rishi Rich Project, Jay was an innovator of Bhangra-R&B blend that his first album assisted popularize among the universal South Asian diaspora.
In 2006, he set up his own independent label, Jayded Records.
