23-Year-Old Jenna Talackova Booted From Miss Universe Canada For Being Transgender
Should transgender females be permitted to participate in female beauty contests?
That's the issue at the center of a heated scam involving one Canadian pageant participator.
The 23-year-old, Jenna Talackova, was born boy but has recognized as a girl since age 4.
She started hormone treatment at the age of 14 and had gender reassignment surgical treatment at 19.
On Friday, Talackova, a Vancouver resident, was booted from the Miss Universe Canada contest as she didn’t meet the requirements to fight regardless of having stated otherwise on her entry form.
"We do, however, respect her goals, determination and wish her the best."
As per reports, Jenna got selected amongst 65 competitors for the 2012 contest.
She got removed from the contest in spite of there being no mention of rules about sex changes.
In a report, Talackova stated, “I am very disappointed with the decision taken by the Miss Universe ... organizers.”
“However, I will look to turn this situation into a positive so that other people in a similar situation are not discriminated against in the future.”
In a 2010 talk for Thailand's Miss International Queen, a pageant for transgendered female, Talackova was asked whether she regards herself as transgender or as a woman.
"I regard myself as a woman … with a history," she added.

Miss World and Miss Universe beauty pageants are only for naturally born women. However, there are plenty of other beauty pageants for her to compete in.
