Infosys has registered an increase of 27.4% in consolidated net profit, which stood at Rs 2,316 crore for the three month period ended March 31, 2012.
This is as compared to a net profit of Rs 1,818 crore recorded during the January-March quarterly period of 2010-11.
But, on a quarter-on-quarter basis, the net profit declined by 2.4%.
Revenues grew by 22% to Rs 8,852 crore for the quarter from Rs. 7,250 crore in the year-ago period.
Infosys chief financial officer and member of board V Balakrishnan stated, “We had a very difficult quarter with revenues declining sequentially... The global currency market volatility continues to be a challenge for the industry.”
The scrip of India's second biggest software exporter was trading at Rs 2,499.80 at 9:45am, down 9.10% from its earlier close at the BSE.
Infosys while declaring its third quarterly outcomes earlier had given the Q4 income guidance in the range of Rs 9,391 crore-Rs 9,412 crore, and expected revenue for the complete year ending March 31, 2012, in the range of Rs 34,273 crore-Rs 34,294 crore.
Infosys anticipates income in the range of Rs 9,011 crore-Rs 9,100 crore for the three month period ending June 30, and in the range of Rs 38,431 crore-Rs 39,136 crore for FY'13.
But, the company has warned of tough times in the coming time.
Infosys CEO and managing director SD Shibulal said, "The year ahead looks challenging for the IT industry with slow recovery in the global markets. We are executing on our Infosys 3.0 strategy which is meant to deliver high quality growth in the medium to long-term. We are making investments and have put in place a structure to deliver on this strategy."
At the end of March 31, Infosys had more than 1.49 lakh staff that comprises a gross accumulation of 10,676 staff during the fourth quarter.
The company’s board has announced a final dividend of Rs 22 per equity share for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2012 and a special dividend of Rs 10 per equity share.
