Default External Affairs Minister Criticizes US For SRK Detention

External Affairs Minister S. M. Krishna on April 14 criticized the United States for the recent frisking of super star Shahrukh Khan at a New York airport, showing regret that this took place in the US for the second time.

In Moscow on Saturday, Mr. Krishna stated, “Shah Rukh is one of the most popular and wellknown actors in India. The last time, he was detained at a US airport and the Indian consulate had to intervene to get him out.”

Mr. Krishna was in Russia to lead an Indian delegacy for discussions with his Russian as well as Chinese counterparts Sergei Lavrov and Yang Jiechi respectively, within a trilateral system.

Krishna stated, “We thought that that (frisking) was behind us, but again the same act has been repeated when he went there (US).”

"On Friday, I asked the Indian foreign secretary's office to summon a US envoy in New Delhi and convey our displeasure at the way things are getting repeated with reference to important visits," the minister said.

The actor was in the United States following the invitation of Yale University, but was arrested at NY airport.
