salesmen should be allow to work in the residential area ?

there are most of the people complain that the door to door salesmen are dangerous for the home security.An such accident also take place with me (A salesman tried to break into my home when a day my home was locked from the outside and the salesman didn't know that I am here in the home.when he tried to break I shout from the inside of the home because I was seeing all the drama through the cctv cameras).so I want to get rid from the salesmen activities especially from the residential area so please suggest me what I should do ,All the suggestion and recommendation would be really appreciated,so thanks in advance.
